Josiah Orlando Update

Below is an update from Jason that he posted yesterday:
There have been no changes in Josiah's condition.The right frontal ventriculostomy has effectively drained the fluid in Josiah's right ventricle. Today, the neurosurgeon performed a left frontal ventriculostomy to lower the pressure in Josiah's left ventircle that had remained very high and unchanged by the drainage on the right side of his brain. The combined drainage will completely take care of the hydrocephalus leaving the blood on his brainstem as the main matter of concern.Blood on the brainstem can not only induce a coma but it can also prevent someone from pulling out of a coma. If the hydrocephalus had caused the coma then it is likely that Josiah would have awakened by now since the fluid levels and pressure in his brain has returned to normal. The lack of response and signs of change indicates that the bleeding into the brainstem is likely the culprit for Josiah's sudden condition not the hydrocephalus. The neurosurgeon believes the tumor may have infiltrated an artery which resulted in the massive hemorrhage in his brain. Although the doctors can take care of the hydrocephalus, there is nothing that they can do about the blood on Josiah's brainstem. It could take weeks for the body to absorb the blood and that is precious time that we cannot afford to lose.The longer that he remains comatose, the less likely it is that he will come out of the coma. To further complicate the matter, Josiah has developed diabetes insipidus as a result of his tumor. This basically means that the communication between Josiah's brain and his kidneys has been disrupted. The brain tells the kidneys when to produce urine and how much is needed. With that connection disrupted, Josiah's kidneys are producing urine at an irregular rate. He is receiving hormones to counter the overproduction from his kidneys. Unfortunately, this is another disturbing sign that Josiah's condition may not be reversible.There is nothing that the doctors can do here at Arnold Palmer that Josiah's doctors in Boise could not do just as well at St. Lukes. The doctors have decided to send us home as soon as they can arrange transportation and Josiah is in stable condition for travel. Make A Wish foundation informed us that they will cover the expense of the air ambulance. It is possible that we may go home to Boise as early as tomorrow.Josiah's heart and lungs are functioning strong and well, but if the tumor progresses to the brainstem that could significantly change. Given his current condition, treatment of any kind, standard medical or alternative, is out of the question. With no treatment, what will slow the advance of the tumor? Our plans had been to have Josiah treated by an alternative specialist in St. Augustine next week before returning to Boise to commence the standard treatment. With standard treatment promising a mere 7.6 months as the mean survival rate, we firmly hoped that we had at least several months to a year before the "thing which I greatly feared" came upon us. Now we are faced with a humanly hopeless situation in which our son may never awaken again in this life. Suzie and I realize that this could be the beginning of the end.We need the touch of the Supernatural. If I may paraphrase C.S. Lewis, it is not an unbelievable miracle that Christ could calm a storm. Storms naturally subside given time. But when men walk on water we see a glimpse of the supernatural world invading the natural. Let me put it this way: men do not walk on water; bread and fish do not regenerate; lepers do not get healed of leprosy; men do not get cured of incurable diseases, and children do not recover from glioblastoma multiforme that invade and infiltrate the thalamus. Only a supernatural intervention can overcome nature's course in this matter.Someone said to me: "Don't give up hope." My response was: I can't give up hope; hope is all we have. I am well aware that Christ can cure the incurable. The pronouncement "inoperable" does not shorten His hand from operating in the microscopic realm.
