Awkward

You are at the store in an aisle of personal items. while you peruse the selection a group of teenage boys walks by and one sings, "Koooteeeex!" when he walks by. awesome.

You run into someone you are just getting to know at the grocery store. You talk, you laugh, you part ways and look down in your cart...yup, female stuff perched right on top of your pile o' stuff. Lovely. You know her husband is saying, "Yeah, let's avoid that house for a few days..."

You have an opportunity to write for the local paper. Exciting for sure! However, you foolishly thought very few people read this paper, so when you run into neighbors and they tell you they read your articles...you blush, and concentrate on your feet, and hmm and haaaa. You pretty much turn into an awkward blubbering idiot. Yup. You've won them over!

You actually look in the mirror for the first time in months and finally see what has become of your eyebrows. Oh my. When you mention to your husband that you would like to get them waxed, he is agreeable. A little too agreeable. He goes on to remind you of your intentions all.day.long.

When you finally make it to the salon and get the job done, you pay, get change back, then hand the gal the wrong bill for a tip. You know it and she knows it. You stare at each other awkwardly. Eventually you back away slowly and see a twinkle of victory flash in her eyes. Sigh. There goes a yummy Dutch.

You have made friends with the new neighbors. Your daughters play together. You exchange pleasantries. You are slowly making friends. You jump the gun and wave wildly like a fool every time she's outside. She's outside less and less...

Said neighbor has smoke alarms going off around dinner time. You notice it's been about 10 minutes, know her husband is at work (not that you NOTICE that kind of thing...ahem...) so you run over to help. while your husband, visiting father-in-law, and neighbor are trying to shut up the crazy alarms, you decide now is a good time to bond. "Rememer that Friends episode where Pheobe can't get her alarm to go off? Ha. this is like that, right? ha!" Hmmmm....perhaps not the right time...

You vote. You're excited because voting is such a special, fought for responsibility. When you hear those words, "Awkward Girl has voted," you cry. And cry and cry. Oh dear.

You take your three-year-old grocery shopping with you. All is well and good and right until you see the peppermint mocha creamer and lose all sense of your surroundings. You dive for the creamer case, not noticing your little one's finger near the case. Yup. You smoosh it. Then as you try to soothe her, eveyone in the dairy section stands back and watches. No one moves. No one reaches for eggs, milk, nog, butter, nothing. They just stand and watch in silence while your daughter screams her head off, "You pinched my finger!!!!!!!!!!!" You hear a collective sigh of relief when you offer to let her pick out chocolate milk to distract her and break up the awkward audience.

Have you run into any awkward moments lately?
