Mr Man and I are sharing a car again. It really is a breeze. Or at least it seemed like it would be a breeze since he's on an easy day schedule for now. The idea was, "I'll take you to work about 2-3 days a week and we'll stay home and get things done the other days." Simple.
Until this poly situation arose and we also found out Fo needs speech therapy. Suddenly I'm taking Mr. to work every day and fitting in dr appointments every afternoon and am exhausted! I know it sounds like nothing, but the timing of everything is what's making this hard. We live a ways out, so a lot of driving is involved, my appointments are not kid friendly so I need to fit in time to drop them off and pick them up from grandma's, Fo still needs naps squeezed in somewhere and we have to be sure to pick Mr. Man up on time. Only a few more weeks, though and I'll have a newborn and be an entirely different kind of exhausted!
Grocery shopping and other things like that are difficult to fit in. This morning, we dropped Mr off at work and decided to go shopping in our jammies! The girls thought it was so fun and I was just relieved to get something done. I discovered there are some absolute pros and cons to shopping at 6ish am.
Pro: Shopping at 6ish am gets your shopping done super early and the rest of the day is free!
Con: Shopping at 6ish am is...shopping at 6ish am. Let's be real: you don't want to do anything else the rest of the day. Yawn.
Pro: No one is there! You can stroll and take your time!
Con: Nothing is there - There were numerous shelves and things being stocked and big sections in produce that weren't available yet. Hmmm. Good thing strawberries would have been an impulse buy anyway.
Pro: You can avoid all the annoying families that are there after school: whining kids, cranky moms, dads that don't understand store etiquette and block the isle with their carts...
Con: The people shopping at 6ish am are generally the type that are willing to get up that early just to avoid you and your sticky toddlers. You are the annoying family they loathe to shop with and they act like you're invisible by standing directly in front of you while you're scanning the cereal...it's fun, really.
Pro: Your toddler can use toothbrush boxes to pound on soup cans and sing, "Are you ready to rock?!" over and over and you can giggle and think it's cute and know that no one is around to care.
Con: When previously mentioned toddler spills her cup of cheerios on the floor and you, in your ginormous state, stare at the dozen or so little gems on the floor in pure exhaustion at the idea of trying to bend over and pick them up and finally make the decision to walk away and pretend you didn't notice - a store employee will walk by and stoop to get them himself and as you're the only person in the store and taht isle (and the other little person in your cart is still munching away on her cheerios) he knows exactly who to glare at. It's a shameful thing, really. You pick up every bit of cheerio and anything else that floats to the floor for the remainder of your trip.
Pro: When it's time to check out, you are immediately escorted to the open register by the employee that has been unnecessarily straightening the bread display in her 6ish am boredom.
Con: She is the only register open and suddenly "business people" (you know, those people that are important and have somewhere to be and aren't carrying handfuls of dirty cheerios in their pockets) with just one or two things are lining up behind you. You're a reasonable, polite person, so you let all of them go ahead of you.
Pro: One of these people is very nice and thanks you profusly.
Con: He also hovers around, offering to help you to your car, then makes interesting jabs at your tummy: "Has anyone been able to tell you why your stomach keeps getting all big and round like that?" Ha. Ha...Ha.
Pro: After accomplishing such an early shopping trip, you treat yourself to coffee on the way home.
Con: How can there be a con to a spiced mocha? Except that you should have ordered a bigger one.

Fun post. However, there are no pros to 6am. None.
